The professional Quantity Surveyor is today known as the Cost Consultant to the Construction Industry.  His expert knowledge of costs and his highly developed analytical ability enables him to:

  • Estimate the cost of a project.
  • Report on the Feasibility of a project
  • Advise on tendering procedures and contractual arrangements.
  • Investigate, check and report on suitability of tenders submitted including amending the same as deemed necessary.
  • Liaise with the architect and or other consultants to ensure that financial provisions of the contract are properly interpreted and applied so that the developer’s financial interests are safeguarded and that the contractor is adequately compensated for his work.
  • Negotiate contracts with contractors.
  • Exercise financial control over contracts.
  • Regularly value work in progress for payment purposes and determine the final construction costs after completion.
  • Advise on maintenance programs for buildings and installations, together with cost predictions.
  • Prepare valuations of existing buildings for insurance, fire damage, expropriation or other purposes.
  • Be called as an expert witness or advisor to act as an arbitrator in any court or arbitration on building disputes.
